    • A multimedia computer with a soundcard and speakers
    • Win95, Win98, or NT operating system or Macintosh 8.0 or higher
    • A 28.8 or faster modem

Q: What can I do to make the sound quality better?
A: The single biggest factor in improving the sound quality of Netscape Radio is to improve the quality of the speakers attached to your computer.

Q: Why do I sometimes get static or delays?
A: The audio cutting in and out and static you experienced are the result of poor connectivity. Streaming audio is especially susceptible to congestion related problems . We monitor the speed and quality of our feed constantly and work proactively with ISP's and backbone providers to ensure the best possible feed at all times.

In many cases, you can improve playback quality by making some buffering changes within your RealAudio player:

    1. Open Options/Preferences.
    2. Go to the "Connection" tab
    3. Fill in "Buffer at least 12 seconds before playing."
    4. Then press "ok."

Q: What can I do to improve my "reception"?
A: In many cases, you can improve playback quality by making some buffering changes within your RealAudio player:

    1. Open Options/Preferences.
    2. Go to the "Connection" tab
    3. Fill in "Buffer at least 12 seconds before playing."
    4. Then press "ok."

Q: What can I do about a "CPU too slow" error?
A: Try to have as few programs open as possible when listening to Netscape Radio. If that is not the problem, Real Networks suggests doing some manual configurations within your RealPlayer.

    1. Open your version of RealPlayer and click on options/preferences/performance, and slide the fader to the left (lowest CPU usage).
    2. Still within the RealAudio player, options/preferences, click on "Connection." Select your modem speed from the drop down menus. Then under "buffered play," fill in "Buffer at least 12 seconds before playing."

Q: Why am I getting JavaScript errors?
A: You must use either Netscape 4.5 or higher. Additionally, make sure JavaScript is enabled on your browser.

If your computer only has an earlier version of RealPlayer instead of RealPlayer 8 or higher, the result will be a JavaScript error. You can get the latest player here.

Q: What does error "#50 cannot open audio device" mean?
A: This error usually indicates a problem with your sound card or sound card drivers, in which case you will need to contact your sound card manufacturer. We will not be able to help you with these issues.

If you are running a game, playing a CD or running other software that is playing sound, exit that application and try accessing Netscape Radio again. For more technical support information on RealAudio player, visit this RealAudio site.

    Q: What are Firewall issues?
A: Since Netscape Radio uses the RealAudio player, look at these articles from their help pages:

    Q: Why don't I have any sound?
    A: Check for the following:

    • Are your speakers turned on?
    • Is the volume in your control panels turned up? To do so, open the full volume control panel from the speaker in the systems bar in the bottom right corner of your screen. You will need to double-click on the speaker to open the full panel. Raise the volume of the wave files or uncheck "mute" if that is the case. This should restore your audio, and you should then hear the music!
    • Do you have the Real Audio 8 or higher plug-in? If you do not see the volume-slider control during the plug-in test or on your radio player, then you do not have Real Audio. If you have already installed Real Audio and you still don't have any sound after trying the previous suggestions, we suggest reinstalling the latest RealPlayer plug-in. You might have multiple versions of RealAudio installed. Try a complete uninstall of RealAudio. Next, do a search for multiple copies of the software on your hard drive and delete those as well. Then do a fresh download of RealPlayer 8.
    • Still don't have any sound? Send detailed information--including operating system, browser type and version number, and Real Audio version number--to Netscape Radio Feedback.

Q: Where is the "Yes" button on the plug-in test page?
A: If you are not seeing the "Yes" button to continue to the Player, your font size may be set too large within your browser preferences. Go into Edit>Preferences>Appearances>Fonts. Try using a smaller Variable and Fixed Width font.
