You use the Tab Browsing panel to define options for how Netscape Browser opens new tabs. For example, you can specify whether you want non-requested pop-ups to appear in a tab, what you want to have display in new tabs when you open them, how tabs are ordered, and so on.
Refer to Using Tabs to Browse the Web for more information on tabbed browsing.
| In this section: |
These options determine how Netscape Browser should display a web page when you open a link from another application, such as an e-mail or document.

| a new window | Open the link in a new window. |
| a new tab in the most recent window | Open the link in a new tab in the most recently used window. |
| the most recent tab/window | Open the link in whichever was used last - a tab or a window. |
You use this group of fields to set general behaviours for tabs. For example, you can specify that you want pop-ups to open in a new tab, that you want to be able to double-click on a tab to close it, and so on.
| Hide the tab bar when only one web site is open | If you are only viewing one Web page in a Netscape Browser window, the tab bar is not shown. Uncheck this option to always show the tab bar. |
| Warn when closing multiple tabs | Select this option to have Netscape Browser display a confirmation before it closes multiple tabs. |
| Open a new tab instead of a new window | This option is not implemented. When you select File>New Window or press <Ctrl-N> Netscape Browser always opens a new window rather than a tab, regardless of the selection you make here. |
| Open non-requested pop-ups in a new tab | Check this option to have non-requested pop-ups open in a new tab. (A non-requested pop-up is a pop-up window that opens without your having clicked on a link.) If you select this option, Netscape Browser will automatically display the pop-up in its own "pop-up" tab, which it loads in background in the right-most tab. Only the most recent pop-up is displayed; additional pop-ups will not cause more tabs to open. |
| Double click tab bar to open new tab | Check this option to enable the ability to double-click on the tab bar to open a new tab. |
| Double click to close tab | Check this option to enable the ability to close tabs by double-clicking on them. |
| Show Close Tab button on tab | Check this option to display the close tab button on the tab: Tip: If you choose not to display the close tab button, you can right click on the tab and use the tab menu to close the tab. |
| Show Site Control button on Tab | Check this option to display the site control menu button on the tab:
Tip: If you choose not to display the site controls button on tabs, you can modify options for specific sites by selecting Tools > Options and then selecting the Site Controls panel. |
| When opening a link in a new tab: | When you click on a link that is configured to open a new window, and your options are set to open such links in a new tab, this option determines whether the new tab opens in the background (keeping your current page displayed) or in the foreground (making the new tab your current page). |
| When a new tab is created open with: | Specify what you want to display in a tab when you add a new one.
|
| Open a new tab to the: | Specify where you want new tabs to open in relation to the other open tabs.
|
| When a tab is closed, focus to: | Specify the tab that you want Navigator to display once you close the current tab.
|
You use this group of fields to define how Netscape Browser displays newly opened web pages, that is, to specify whether new pages should open in the currently displayed tab, or whether they should open in a new tab. (Note: When you set an option to have pages open in a new tab, the behaviour used by Netscape Browser for opening the tab is determined by the preferences set in the Tab browsing group of fields, as described above.)
| Local file | Specify how to display a file that you open from a local drive, such as your hard-drive or a CD-ROM. |
| History | Specify how to display pages when you select a page from the History pane. |
| Bookmarks | Specify how to display pages when you select a bookmark. |
| Link in page | Specify how to display pages when you click on a hypertext link. Note: When you set this option to display links in a new tab, Netscape Browser opens all links in new tabs, and not just links for which the page's author has specified that the link display a new window. |
| Home page(s) | Specify how to display your home pages when you reload them. |
| Search bar result | Specify how to display your search results. |
| Personal Toolbar button | Specify how to display pages that you access from your personal toolbar. |
